How I price. No surprises.

Every job gets a written estimate before I pick up a screwdriver, based on a proper site visit. This page sets out the fixed rates, the per-circuit maths, and what actually drives the price of the bigger jobs. For anything with "scoped on site" below, I'll give you the exact figure after I've seen the job.

Standard Rates

Mon–Fri, 8am–4pm. All prices exclude VAT.

Hourly Rate

Per person, per hour. Excludes materials.

£60 +VAT

Minimum Charge

Applies to all jobs, regardless of duration.

£60 +VAT

All prices are plus VAT at the applicable rate. Materials are charged separately at cost.

Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs)

Priced by circuit count, not bedrooms, not property size. More circuits means more testing time, so that's what drives the price.

Up to 6 circuits

Covers most standard flats and smaller homes.

Scoped on site

Each additional circuit above 6

Per circuit. No upper limit.

£15 +VAT

Not sure how many circuits you have? Count the switches on your fuse board. Each one is a circuit. The base figure is scoped on site; the per-circuit addition above is fixed. Full EICR details →

Consumer Unit Upgrades

Priced by circuit count. More circuits means more RCBOs, more labour, and more testing time.

Up to 6 circuits

Base price for a standard upgrade.

Scoped on site

Each additional circuit above 6

Per circuit.

£50 +VAT

What's included: Hager consumer unit with integrated Type 2 surge protection · Individual RCBO on every circuit · Full testing · Electrical Installation Certificate · NICEIC Part P Building Control notification · Circuit labelling

House Rewiring

Priced by bedroom count as a guide. The survey confirms the exact scope and figure before any work starts.

Per bedroom (guideline)

Includes new consumer unit, all cabling, sockets, switches, and full certification.

∼£1,800 +VAT

Guideline figures only. A free survey confirms everything before you commit. Full rewiring details →

EV Charger Installation

Every EV charger installation is different. The charger unit, the cable route, and whether your consumer unit needs work all affect the price. A free site survey gives you an exact figure before any work starts. Full Northern Powergrid DNO application included.

Free site survey

Every installation includes a free on-site survey and a written estimate before any work starts. The charger unit, trunking, and any additional materials are separate.

Free

OZEV-approved installer. City & Guilds 2919 qualified. A site survey confirms the exact figure. Full EV charger details →

Available after 8pm for genuine emergencies, no power, safety concerns, or dangerous situations that can't wait until morning.

Other Services — Guide Prices

Every job is assessed on site before a written estimate is given. The figures below are realistic starting points based on typical installations in York.

All prices exclude VAT. Materials are charged at cost unless otherwise stated. A written estimate is provided before any work starts.

This Is What Cheap Looks Like

A cheap connector overloading and burning out. This is why I don't cut corners on materials, and why you shouldn't choose an electrician based on price alone.

Just because a product is sold at a major retailer doesn't mean it's good quality. It means it meets the minimum British Standard. Think of it like the difference between a car that scrapes through its MOT and one that's been properly serviced.

I choose materials I'd be happy to install in my own home. Buy cheap, buy twice.

How to Keep Your Costs Down

You're paying for my time, so anything you can do to help me work efficiently saves you money.

Clear the loft

If I need loft access, make sure it's clear of stored items. Time spent moving boxes is time on the clock.

Move furniture away from walls

I often need access to sockets, switches and cable routes behind furniture. Pull things away before I arrive.

Lift carpets and floor coverings

Floorboards sometimes need to come up for cable routing. Lifting carpets in advance saves time.

Know what you want before the visit

Changes mid-job are fine but charged separately. A clear brief upfront means a more accurate estimate.

Send me photos in advance

A quick photo of your consumer unit or the area I'll be working in helps me prepare. Easiest way: WhatsApp me.

Terms & Conditions

The small print, kept clear and honest so you know exactly where you stand.

Estimates & Pricing

All costs are exclusive of VAT unless otherwise stated. Estimates are based on standard working hours (Mon–Fri, 8am–4pm). Work outside these hours, including weekends, must be specifically agreed. Any additional work requested during a project is charged at the standard hourly rate, plus materials. Time collecting materials is also chargeable. The minimum charge of £60 + VAT applies to all works.

What's Included (and What Isn't)

Estimates don't include patching of plasterwork, redecoration, or work related to metering equipment or changes to your incoming electrical supply, unless specifically stated. For smaller jobs, estimates assume work will be completed in a single visit.

Your Property

The estimate assumes your existing electrical installation is in satisfactory condition. If I find anything unsafe or non-compliant, affected circuits will be left de-energised until remedial work is completed. I'll leave things clean and tidy.

Asbestos

My estimates don't include any work involving asbestos. If asbestos is discovered during a job, work will stop immediately and it's the client's responsibility to have it removed by a licensed contractor.

Payment & Certification

Payment is due within 7 days of the invoice date unless otherwise agreed in writing. Certification is issued upon receipt of full payment.

Warranty

All work is covered by a 12-month warranty, provided the consumer unit hasn't been tampered with, accessories have been used correctly, and no amendments have been made to the circuits covered by the certificate.
