Clear Prices. No Surprises.

I believe you should know what you're paying before I pick up a screwdriver. Here's how my pricing works — transparent, fair, and straightforward.

Standard Rates

Mon–Fri, 8am–4pm. All prices exclude VAT.

Hourly Rate

Per person, per hour. Excludes materials.

£60

Minimum Charge

Applies to all jobs, regardless of duration.

£60

All prices are plus VAT at the applicable rate. Materials are charged separately at cost.

Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs)

EICR pricing is based on the number of circuits in your property — not the size of the building. A small flat with solar panels, a heat pump and an EV charger could easily have more circuits than a large 4-bed house with basic electrics.

Up to 6 Circuits

Covers most standard flats and smaller homes.

£180

Each Additional Circuit

Per circuit above 6. No upper limit.

£15

Not sure how many circuits you have? Open your consumer unit (fuse box) and count the switches. Each switch is a circuit. Or just give me a ring and I'll help you work it out — 01904 530 735

All EICR prices exclude VAT. Any identified remedial works must be completed within 30 days from the date of testing.

Emergency Call-Outs

Available after 8pm for genuine emergencies — no power, safety concerns, or dangerous situations that can't wait until morning.

First Hour

Plus materials as required.

£120

Each Additional Hour

Or part thereof. Plus materials.

£100

All emergency prices are plus VAT. Available after 8pm, subject to availability.

This Is What Cheap Looks Like

A cheap connector overloading and burning out. This is why I don't cut corners on materials — and why you shouldn't choose an electrician based on price alone.

Just because a product is sold at a major retailer doesn't mean it's good quality — it means it meets the minimum British Standard. Think of it like the difference between a car that scrapes through its MOT and one that's been properly serviced. Both are technically road legal, but you'd feel very differently about driving each one to Edinburgh.

I choose materials I'd be happy to install in my own home. Buy cheap, buy twice.

How to Keep Your Costs Down

You're paying for my time — so anything you can do to help me work efficiently saves you money. Here are some practical things you can do before I arrive:

🪜 Clear the loft

If I need loft access, make sure it's clear of stored items. Time spent moving boxes is time on the clock. If the loft is boarded, let me know in advance.

🛋️ Move furniture away from walls

I often need access to sockets, switches and cable routes behind furniture. Pull things away from the walls in the rooms I'll be working in before I arrive.

🏠 Lift carpets and floor coverings

Floorboards sometimes need to come up for cable routing. If you can lift carpets in advance, that's less time I'm spending on non-electrical work.

📋 Know what you want before the visit

Changes mid-job are fine, but they're charged separately. If you can have a clear idea of what you want upfront, I can give you a more accurate estimate and crack on faster.

📸 Send me photos in advance

A quick photo of your consumer unit, the area I'll be working in, or the issue you need fixed helps me prepare properly — and sometimes I can give you a ballpark over the phone. The easiest way? Send it to me on WhatsApp.

Terms & Conditions

The small print — kept clear and honest so you know exactly where you stand.

Estimates & Pricing

All costs are exclusive of VAT unless otherwise stated. Estimates are based on standard working hours (Mon–Fri, 8am–4pm). Work outside these hours, including weekends, must be specifically agreed. Any additional work requested during a project is charged at the standard hourly rate, plus materials. Time collecting materials is also chargeable. A minimum charge of £60 + VAT applies to all works.

What's Included (and What Isn't)

Estimates don't include patching of plasterwork, redecoration, or work related to metering equipment or changes to your incoming electrical supply, unless specifically stated. Unless noted otherwise, replacement items are installed on a like-for-like basis. For smaller jobs, estimates assume work will be completed in a single visit. For larger projects like rewires, the estimate will include the expected number of days and visits. Any additional time beyond the estimate will be discussed and agreed with you before proceeding.

Your Property

The estimate assumes your existing electrical installation is in satisfactory condition and compliant with current regulations. If I find anything unsafe or non-compliant, affected circuits will be left de-energised until remedial work is completed — this is a safety requirement, not an additional charge from me. While every effort is made to minimise dust and debris, it's an unavoidable part of electrical work. I'll leave things clean and tidy. Floorboards and floor coverings may need to be lifted — care will be taken, but I can't accept responsibility for wear-related damage during this process.

Asbestos

My estimates don't include any work involving asbestos. If asbestos is discovered during a job, work will stop immediately and it's the client's responsibility to have it removed by a licensed contractor. Bright Sparks of York Ltd accepts no liability for asbestos removal costs.

Unforeseen Issues

Any unforeseen complications will be discussed and agreed with you in advance before any additional work is carried out. These are charged at the standard hourly rate plus materials.

Payment & Certification

Payment is due within 7 days of the invoice date unless otherwise agreed in writing. All goods supplied remain the property of Bright Sparks of York Ltd until full payment has been received. Certification is issued upon receipt of full payment and provided to the person who commissioned the work.

Warranty

All work is covered by a 12-month warranty, provided that the consumer unit hasn't been tampered with or opened, installed accessories have been used correctly, and no amendments or additions have been made to the circuits covered by the certificate.

Photography

I like to take photos of completed work for my own records. If I'd like to use any images for promotional purposes, I'll always check with you first and make sure there's nothing identifiable in the pictures.
