Emergency Electrician in York
Lost Power? Something Doesn't Look Right?
If you've got an electrical emergency in York, call me. I'm NICEIC approved, I'll get to you as fast as I safely can, and I'll make sure the problem is properly resolved — not just patched up.
What Counts as an Electrical Emergency?
Not every electrical issue needs an emergency call-out. Here's a quick guide to help you decide:
🚨 Call Me Now
Total loss of power, burning smell from sockets or your consumer unit, sparking or arcing, exposed or damaged wiring, persistent tripping that's left you without power, or anything that feels immediately dangerous.
⏰ Can Wait Until Morning
A single socket not working, a light fitting that's stopped, intermittent tripping on one circuit (as long as others still work), or cosmetic issues. These are still worth fixing — just not at emergency rates.
Not sure? Call me anyway — I'd rather talk you through it and save you the call-out fee than have you worrying all night about something that might be dangerous. 01904 530 735

While You're Waiting
If you've got an electrical emergency and you're waiting for me to arrive, here are some things you can do to stay safe:
If you can see exposed wires, scorch marks, or melted plastic — stay well clear. Don't try to repair anything yourself.
Your consumer unit (fuse box) has a main switch at the top. If you can safely reach it, turning it off will cut all power to the house. This is the safest option if you smell burning.
If a specific socket or appliance is the problem, unplug everything from that area if you can do so safely.
If you've lost all power, check if your neighbours have too. If they have, it might be a supply issue with Northern Powergrid (0800 011 3332) rather than a fault in your home.
